Thank You Letter from the ACHE-SETC 2009 President/Chair

Dear Chapter Members,

It has been a wonderful opportunity to serve as your Chapter President/Chair for 2009. It was a pleasure working with so many talented folks that demonstrated dedication and commitment throughout the year to achieve outstanding results.

Our mission for 2009 was to effectively reach and share educational information with the majority of our growing membership (1200 strong) within 29 counties. Together we accomplished this by completing four quarterly education sessions (with record attendance totaling 800 members and guests) and a third joint quarterly session between ACHE-SETC and HFMA Texas Gulf Coast Chapter with a record attendance of 189 for that event. Five Category I sessions (including one hosted by the chapters Golden Triangle Local Program Council) were conducted with also a record attendance totaling 328. Both local program councils (LPCs) (ACHE-SETC Brazos Valley, College Stations, and the Golden Triangle, Beaumont, Texas), are beginning to establish a strong foothold in their area by providing numerous Category I and Category II programs. Due to their success additional LPCs may be on the horizon.

Your support made it possible for another successful year for the Dr. Jeptha W. Dalston Annual Student Awards Program (“Facing Employment Reality in Tough Economic Times”. Your Chapter was a sponsor of programs like the UH-CL 2009 Spring Forum and Preceptors’ Conference; and several panel discussions at the UT Fleming Center, “Bridging the Divide.”

The Chapter’s third “What’s Up Boss?” program (“Tough Decisions: Career Advice for Difficult Economic Times” was held October 15th with 122 attending.

The fourth ACHE Board of Governor’s Exam Work Study Group was conducted this year. For 2009, 14 of your colleagues have successfully passed the BOGE.

This year Chapter events were held at a new venue, The Houstonian Hotel, resulting in superior quality service and greater satisfaction, based on evaluation results of members.

The ACHE – SETC Annual Golf Tournament had another successful year providing funds to help support United Way.

Your Chapter launched its first live webinar at the beginning of the year allowing members that were located in outlying counties to conveniently view quarterly sessions live on their computers and provide immediate feedback for evaluation purposes.

Thanks to the generous financial support of major medical and non-medical professional organizations the Chapter has increased the annual dollar amount of scholarships (academic and ACHE Congress) to almost $20,000.

While the economy this year has been a challenge your Chapter has weathered the storm and overall we have had a successful year. Thank you for your continued support of the Chapter and best wishes for the New Year as Ron Castagno takes the lead.

Warmest Regards,

Ed Tucker
