American Hospital Association (AHA) President, Rich Umbdenstock
spoke before a record audience of close to 250 at the ACHE – SETC
3rd Quarter Educational Session held at The Houstonian Hotel,
Thursday, August 20th. The topic was “Congressional Health
Care Reform Proposals: The Legislative Process”. Mr. Umbdenstock
didn’t miss a beat as he reviewed current status of the health care
reform proposals in the legislation, the challenges President
Obama’s is faced with on the issues, and predictions on the solution
that is right for America. He captivated the audience’s attention
with his highly effective communication skills and methodically
explained how the proposals may become landmark legislation. He
spoke about the key components of the legislation and the political
climate for passage of the proposals. In addition, he commented on
legislative options if this legislation doesn’t pass.
Mr. Umbdenstock’s presentation commented on President Obama’s desire
to pass reform legislation that will:
Provide coverage for all
Make the coverage affordable which will be central to extending
coverage for all
Emphasize that cost reductions are a shared responsibility
Result in the bottom line – that hospitals support comprehensive and
meaningful health care reform
He also stated the AHA’s advocacy position and that of other key
stakeholders (e.g., American Medical Association, America’s Health
Insurance Plans, Advanced Medical Technology Associate, et. al).
