I would like to welcome six new Board members to the ACHE – SETC Board of Directors: Charles D. Ardoin Jr., MD, Physician-in-Chief for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System; Marc L. Boom, MD, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of The Methodist Hospital; Andrew G. DeYoung, FACHE, Director Healthcare Information Management at the University of Texas Medical Branch; Laura Fortin, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer of St. Joseph Medical Center; George V. Masi, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer of Harris County Hospital District; and Adam C. Walmus, FACHE, Director of the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Medical Center. Each of these individuals brings with them an array of talent and experience that will benefit the Chapter. The Board of Directors is delighted that they will be helping lead the Chapter in 2010.
Congratulations to Allison Rose, University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL); Amy M. Lawler, Texas A&M University, and Anup Bodhe, UHCL for receiving ACHE – SETC’s 2010 Congress Scholarship. These three talented students have proven themselves worthy to receive $1,500 to cover their tuition and expenses to attend the annual ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership Conference in Chicago from March 22 - 25, 2010.
Similar to the dashboards that many of our organizations use to assess their performance, ACHE provides our Chapter with certain performance metrics and objectives. Over the past year ACHE – SETC has grown by 8% and now has more than 1,250 members, 4% greater than the benchmark set by ACHE. The number of Fellows included in our membership roster has increased by 14% from 2008 with 335 other Chapter members currently eligible for advancement. There were 8 more Chapter events in 2009 which resulted in an 87% increase in programming hours from 37 to 70 hours. Another objective set by ACHE was to increase attendance by at least 5% and due to the combined increase in the number of members and Chapter events we were able to surpass our goal by 78%.
Over the past year under the leadership of Edgar L. Tucker Jr., FACHE, ACHE – SETC has made significant strides to provide value to its members. Four successful quarterly breakfast sessions were held for a record total attendance of 800. Five Category I educational sessions were provided locally for Chapter members. The fourth ACHE Board of Governor’s Exam Workshop helped 12 Chapter members advance to Fellow. All members of ACHE – SETC’s Higher Education Network were visited to help promote ACHE and educate students on the value of the Chapter. The Chapter’s third “What’s Up Boss?” event was held as well as three events in conjunction with the George McMillan Fleming Center for Healthcare Management at the University of Texas – Houston, School of Public Health. Lastly, the Chapter successfully created and supported its second Local Program Council (LPC), the Golden Triangle LPC, in Beaumont. We look forward to continued success in 2010.
Sincerely,
David
